Drivers license center demands green card from U.S. Citizen
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. A U-S citizen from Puerto Rico had to return to a Clarksville driver's license center twice and speak with a supervisor before being granted a license.
A worker at the center insisted Yolanda Echevarria needed a "green card."
Echevarria went to the office Tuesday with several forms of identification, including a military I-D and voter registration card, but a worker kept telling her she needed a "green card" _ or document that proves a non - U-S citizen is a legal resident in the United States.
Echevarria was born in Puerto Rico, therefore a U-S citizen from birth.
After looking online to see what documents she might need, she returned the following day with her birth certificate but was met with the same request from the same clerk.
Echevarria, a Stewart County High School teacher whose husband is deployed to Iraq, eventually met with a supervisor and was able to resolve the situation.
Afterward, she said she was willing to provide the proper identification but wanted to be treated with respect.
