NEW YORK -- A woman has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for organizing a green card-marriage scam for hundreds of immigrants in New York City.
Beverly Mozer-Brown was sentenced yesterday for her role in the scam. Federal authorities say she accepted anywhere from $8,000 to $16,000 from people who needed green cards to stay in the U.S.
Authorities say she and her co-workers then prepared documents with fake information and paid American citizens to participate in the phony marriages. The scam netted more than 1 million dollars between 2001 and 2006.
