Immigration Bill Dies in U.S. Senate

Though its authors have pledge to press on, the flashpoint immigration overhaul bill collapsed late Thursday when both parties in the U.S. Senate could not agree to end a filibuster, according to The Los Angeles Times.

The measure could be reintroduced, but no timetable has been set for it.

The bill would have created a new government database for employee verification and rewritten green card laws, CNET reported.

Technology firms especially opposed the green card overhaul, saying it would give too much control over talent screening to the government.
